I’LL GIVE YOU MINE, IF YOU GIVE ME YOURS

This series looks at the things we as a society take from the world, more importantly the animal kingdom. It asks the viewer to consider if it would ever trade places or give up what it is taking. Whether it is giving up a piece of our body, our freedom, our child, whatever it is that we feel we are entitled to take, we must be willing to be give up. The style in which it is done is made to mimic street art because it is envisioned for the wider public, as we all in one way or another guilty of doing something we would not be so comfortable with if roles were reversed. Each work is created with a blunt, bold and honest approach. The application of colour is done in such a way to directly illustrate what is up for trade. The first work of the series with a pink rhino horn and a pink penis, served as the beginning to a long line of images that represent some of the twisted parts of the relationship between man and other beings. In this instance, rhinos are being slaughtered for their horns and are close to extinction at this time. The powder made from rhino horn is believed in certain cultures to help with sterility and increase stamina. This belief system carries with it a huge cost, along with many others that see the demise of entire species.
